  3. It's significant because Quentin Bryce is the first Australian Governor-General to go to Antarctica. When she was there she unveiled a plaque on the Mawson Antarctica Base for the expedition Douglas Mawson went on.

The cool thing about it is that she going there to celerbrate the journey of Sir Douglas Mawson and that she went to one of the Australian bases, the Casey Station. Quentin Bryce also broke the ice covering a plaque commerating Sir Douglas Mawson.

  7. Quentin Bryce went to Antarctica recently in memory of Sir Douglas Mawson. She revealed his plaque by smashing the sheet of ice covering it with a hammer. She is the first Governor General to have visited Antarctica. She spent nearly three hours in the Antarctic before leaving after midday and getting back to Tasmania at 5pm.

    Thanks,
